Just behind Worthing is the magnificent South Downs National Park. A 15 min drive and you’re out of the rat race and in a place that could be worlds away.
The actual South Downs Way is a 100 miles (160 Km) long National Trail that follows the old routes and droveways along the chalk escarpment and ridges of the South Downs.
It stretches from the ancient cathedral city of Winchester in the west, the first capital of England, through to the white chalky cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head near Eastbourne in the east. Almost all of its stunning 160 km length is peacefully off-road.

On a clear day you can spot paragliders and buzzards sharing the thermals above you. Then head down for a wander and a bite in one the villages whose flint houses were built wherever fresh water rises up through the chalk. There’s also great stop at Devil’s Dyke, where many photographers and artists have contemplated a view Constable considered ‘the grandest in the world’.
